About

Built on craft, clarity, and accountability

The Accent Atelier Inc. unites design sensibility with disciplined field execution. Homeowners across the GTA trust us to protect their space, manage complexity, and deliver renovations that look intentional — not merely “finished.”

Vision

To set the standard for design-build renovations in the GTA

We envision a renovation experience where beauty and build quality are inseparable — where every kitchen, bath, basement, and whole-home project reflects thoughtful design, precise workmanship, and lasting value for Toronto-area homes.

Our long-term aim is to be the atelier clients recommend when the work must feel elevated, the process must feel professional, and the result must endure.

Mission

Design carefully. Build cleanly. Communicate constantly.

Our mission is to deliver end-to-end renovation services — from consultation and design through construction and handover — with transparent scopes, realistic schedules, and finish-focused execution.

We coordinate trades, safeguard occupied homes, and keep clients informed at every stage so decisions stay clear and outcomes stay aligned with the approved plan.

How we work

  • Integrity of scope — what we propose is what we build toward.
  • Respect for the home — protection, cleanliness, and quiet professionalism on site.
  • Design that performs — aesthetics paired with durable, practical detailing.
  • Accountable delivery — one team owning schedule, quality, and close-out.

Homeowner resources

Permits, codes & practical guidance for GTA renovations

A clear starting point for homeowners planning work in Toronto and nearby municipalities. This is general public information — your project’s exact requirements depend on scope, location, and municipal review.

When permits are often needed

Typical renovation triggers

  • Moving or removing load-bearing walls
  • Changing plumbing or electrical systems in a substantial way
  • New openings for windows/doors, especially egress
  • Basement suites / secondary suites and related fire/egress upgrades
  • Structural changes, additions, or exterior alterations regulated by your city

Cosmetic work alone (paint, flooring, some cabinet replacements) may not need a permit — but “may” is not a guarantee. Confirm with your municipality.

Before you apply

Homeowner checklist

  • Define scope in writing (rooms, structural, MEP)
  • Confirm property address, zoning, and condo/board rules if applicable
  • Gather drawings / sketches and existing condition photos
  • Ask which inspections will be required and in what order
  • Clarify who pulls the permit: owner, designer, or contractor

A clean scope upfront prevents delay when the building department asks for clarifications.

Common mistakes

What slows projects down

  • Starting construction before permit issuance
  • Assuming “my neighbour didn’t need one”
  • Changing scope mid-build without revised approvals
  • Missing condo alteration agreements or insurance requirements
  • Hiring trades without clarifying permit accountability

We help clients map permit risk during design — before demolition starts.
